Swimming

Adaptive swimming is designed to provide swimmers of all abilities the chance to enjoy the water, whether for recreation or competition. Using specialized equipment like flotation devices, modified swim strokes, or support from swim guides, adaptive swimming allows individuals to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of swimming. From swimming lessons to local competitions and even Paralympic events, adaptive swimming accommodates varying abilities and needs, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive in the pool. It’s a sport that enhances mobility, builds confidence, and promotes overall wellness.

Equipment Options

Swimming is one of those sports where you won’t need much besides a bathing suit swim cap and nose plug. Some equipment like leg straps can be helpful for those that want to participate in a triathlon. Pool noodles and other personal floatation devices are super helpful when learning or for some ability levels.

Injury Level Considerations

No matter your injury level you can learn how to swim. Start off using personal floatation devices for saftey.

Ease of Access

Your local parks and recreation department may have a pool. Some even offer adaptive swim sessions or classes.

Equipment Options

It doesn’t take much on the equipment side of things to get started in the pool. Depending on your ability level you might want to invest in personal flotation devices, pool noodles, ankle straps or aquatic gloves.
