Join Adaptive Adventures, Chicago Park District, and Shirley Ryan Ability Lab for a fun evening of adaptive climbing where our trained staff and volunteers will provide equipment and teach you the skills you need to ascend to new heights! With adaptive techniques and equipment, we make climbing accessible to a wide range of abilities!
Goals
· Learn climbing skills and adaptive equipment/techniques
· Foster an amazing sense of community, trust, courage and accomplishment.
· Break through barriers and summit to new heights.
Schedule
We are currently accepting participants into two different sessions (6:00 – 7:15 or 7:15 – 8:30). Participants must come at the session time they sign up for. If you come earlier or later than your allotted time, we may not be able to accommodate you. You MUST register to attend and registration will close every Monday at 3:00pm CST. If you show up without registering, we will not be able to accommodate you. Please arrive on time.
Who Can Attend?
Climbing can be easily adapted to almost any ability level. We have opportunities for anyone with a primary physical or visual disability!
What Can I Expect?
We will cover the basics of rope work, climber movement, and adaptive techniques and equipment, so that a first-time or seasoned climber can come and enjoy the thrill of climbing. Benefits of rock climbing include physical and mental aspects such as practice of fine motor skills, coordination of movements, balance, and core control as well as problem solving and mental focus. We will focus on every participant as an individual and encourage each climber to push their unique and personal comfort zones.
