The Orvis movie, MEND, is a short narrative of how fly fishing provided a path of recovery for Joey Maxim. (see link below) Joey recites this John Buchan quote and relates its importance to his recovery-

“The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.”

Perhaps this will help others to understand what a gift fishing can offer in supporting the recovery of someone who has suddenly lost the ability to live life as they previously cherished it.
